Mom + Pop Shoppe

Project Details

Mom + Pop Shoppe is a wellness and speciality goods shop nestled in downtown Fayetteville, Arkansas. The passion project of owners Sadie Virginia and Bill Harris, Mom + Pop was born from the idea that things we own should be responsibly sourced and made to last. Everything carried in the shop is made in small batches by artisans across the country, with the goal to “bring handmade culture to their local community.”

It was important to Sadie and Bill that the mark be created by a human hand as well as maintain a minimalistic feel. This, and the idea that well made products should naturally age and get better over time, is deeply reminiscent of the ancient Japanese aesthetic and worldview known as Wabi Sabi. Still central to Japanese culture and adopted in places like Denmark and California, beauty is seen in the “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”, and the natural process of wearing is celebrated. This philosophy inspired a hand-drawn logotype that embraces imperfection and mirrors the heartbeat of the shop.

All window signage was painted freehand by a local Fayetteville artist, designed to fill the entire front window and project shadows of the logo on the shop floor during various times of day.

All photography was taken with 35 + 120mm film using natural light and not over-styled for a casual vibe.
